Alex Mowrey is a photographer that lives here in Pittsburgh. He works full time for the University of Pittsburgh in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. He is also a photographer for the Athletics department, photographing everything from Men’s basketball to the two time ACC champion Women’s volleyball team.

Alex started photography in student government while in high school, documenting student activities. He then took that hobby to college and became the Photo Editor of the student run paper, The Rocket. During that time in college, he worked on his photography and continues to learn about the craft to this day.

Alex’s photo was taken during Pittsburgh’s Light-Up Night. He arrived at the tree right as the Zamboni was finishing up its work. He set up his tripod and wanted to get a nice reflection of the tree in the glistening ice. The blue light from the top of PPG beautifully matched up with the blue on the Highmark building.

“I always love more opportunities to share my work with others. I take so many photos that never see the light of day and it is wonder and exciting to have something printed and hung for people to see.”

Alex owes his success to a lot of people. His family, friends, and mentors have pushed him to get to where he is today, and he couldn’t do it without them.
