Courtney Mattey :: @cmatteyphotography
Courtney Mattey is a sophomore mathematics and sociology major at Grove City College. After three years of media work during high school summers at Seneca Hills Bible Camp, she now shoots mostly as a hobby. When she’s not studying, she’s the photographer for the Grove City College Marching Band, and sometimes also shoots for the Admissions office and GCC’s student run newspaper, The Collegian.
Courtney has always loved the idea of preserving memories through photography and owned many point-and-shoot cameras when she was little. However, she didn’t truly appreciate photography as an art until she started working at Seneca Hills Bible Camp in 2014. She worked on the media team, and during staff training, she learned everything about shooting with manual settings, and it was at that point that she knew that she wanted to pursue photography more seriously.
Courtney’s photo is a shot of her mom gathering lights to decorate their Christmas tree. She feels like it shows something that a lot of people see as a simple action, something both quiet and beautiful.
“Photography is just a hobby for me, so to be recognized for what I’ve worked so hard to accomplish is an incredible opportunity. It’s like a milestone in my journey with photography, and it’s the biggest thing to happen to me yet!”
Courtney would like to thank God, the Seneca Hills Bible Camp for her training. She would also like to thank her parents, as well as her friend Dale Wentzel, who teachers her, supports her and tries new photography skills with her.
